In recent correspondence with a number of readers we discussed the merits of having a website highlighting the positive aspects of our country in response to all the negativity doing the rounds.

My contribution centered on how boring some countries are; I cited a newspaper headline in the local paper in Saint Maws in Cornwall that went on about the dog poo in the streets as being a major issue.

My ex-pat friend Steve Manning, who personifies what the word sardonic means, responded as follows on the situation in Australia:

I watched a program some time ago where they interviewed people on the verge of a nervous breakdown because the roots from trees had buckled the pathway, forcing them to step over the cracks.
